Welcome to Moonbeam Class! We are Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. Our teacher is Mrs Marsden and our Teaching Assistant is Mrs Bell. We have a lovely classroom area which opens onto a large outdoor learning space. We have a beautiful water area, sand pit, music area, mud kitchen, building area decorated with sensory herb plants for us to investigate. Indoors, we access ‘Chilli Challenges’ which enable us to practise and learn new skills, differentiated by stage of development. We follow the National Curriculum 2014 and The Early Years Foundation Stage 2017. We can independently access opportunities in a maths area, writing and mark making areas, phonics area, art table, playdough area, investigation station, reading themed corner and role play area.
We are always busy with lots of skills to focus on and practise, by working with a grown up and in our own play. We know that everyone is special, learning new and different things. We use ‘Talk for Writing’ to enable us to listen to, enjoy, practise and innovate well known stories, and other genres, to give us the skills to write our own pieces. In maths we use lots of equipment to help us, and learn practically both inside and outside in fun, purposeful, playful activities. In phonics, we follow Letters and Sounds to help us along our journey into Reading. We sing lots of songs and rhymes in our lessons, for enjoyment and also to help us learn. We are given lots of opportunities to ‘learn by doing/ taking part’ as well as watching and listening too.
We often have activity sessions planned with our local preschool to learn together in our setting. Learning together through planned activities and purposeful play is fun and inviting, and makes our learning experiences enjoyable and memorable.
If you would like to know more information about our welcoming class and lovely school, please phone Mrs Brown, the secretary in the office, or Mrs Marsden, our class teacher.
